DISCOVER

From Zimbabwe, we mainly explore Victoria Falls.

Located on the Zambezi River, the Falls constitute at this point the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The river flows into the cataract about 1,700 meters wide and up to 108 meters high.

They throw themselves into a long fault in the plateau, to escape through a narrow canyon. They can therefore only be seen from the front at a distance of a few hundred meters only.

The seasons are the opposite of those in the northern hemisphere and one finds a tropical climate here.

On average, the hottest months are September, October, and November. The Victoria Falls region tends to go through drought in May, June, July, August, September, and October. The rainiest months are December and January.

Explanation of high water and low water on the Zambezi

The high water period is from February to July, with a peak between March and April. During this time, a water level increase of 1 metre on the Zambezi River will produce a 5-metre water level increase just before the falls. The flow at the falls is therefore very dense and thick, which gives rise to some fabulous rainbows.

The low water period is from August to January, with the lowest level between November and December. During this period, the flow is low enough that visitors can see the unique geological formations of the falls. When the water level descends, the Zambezi River also becomes the ideal place for an extraordinary rafting experience.
